When fall comes to cities, there's always something so charming about leaves flying in the sky, trees changing their colors, and the air feels pleasantly cold and we feel happier. Romanticism always speaks to us most when we look at photographs like these ones taken by Rebekah Hoyt Photography.
This city wedding surprises with its simplicity and elegance. Combining traditional white and bold purple, the couple picked the color of the year by Pantone which is described as " an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones".
Hard not to fall in love with the photographs of the two smiling newlyweds enjoying each other by the fountain and strolling in the paved streets covered in yellow leaves, but it's harder not to adore cute yellow dresses with a ivory lamp used as a part of the wedding decoration and beautifully served red velvet cupcakes.
From the couple: Steve and I live in historic Richmond, Va., and its restaurants, parks, shops and streets were more than simply a backdrop for our relationship. Our love of the city played a central role in our dating and engagement, so it made sense to host our wedding in the neighborhood too.
Like the city that we love, the setting for our wedding blended historic elegance with contemporary elements. Our Episcopalian minister married us in the ballroom at the John Marshall, a historical hotel that was recently renovated to its original 1920s-era design. The service included letters we wrote to each other, and the program explained how we became friends with each member of the wedding party and stories about the Tom Petty, Landon Pigg and Taylor Swift (Hey Stephen!) music played on acoustic guitar during the service. After cocktail hour in a separate space, we returned to the ballroom to dance to music from Six Stylez, a cover band playing mostly 80s and 90s hits. The floral centerpieces were accented with stacks of antique books because Steve and I are both avid readers. Guests filled out Wedding Mad Libs cards that we're making into a book, in place of a traditional guest book. Bourbon is Steve's favorite, so our wedding cake was bourbon pecan and our signature drink was bourbon-based. My gift to Steve was a pair of cuff links handcrafted by a local jeweler to look like coffee beans, since we went out for coffee on our first date. The same jeweler also designed my wedding band. Steve gave me diamond earrings in an antique style to match my other jewelry for the day: my grandmother's pendant and a bracelet handed down from my grandmother to my mom to me.
