An outdoor wedding where guests can dine and dance under the stars? That's what this Fullerton Arboretum wedding photographed by
Jen Disney had. Burlap, mason jars, and stringed lights.. a must see for any DIY lover! Thank you Jen for sharing this beautiful wedding with us!
From Jen Disney: "Burlap & lace, family & friends. Those were the themes of Megan and Chris's DIY wedding. Their family and friends are a huge part of their story and all of the design, table runners, aisle runner, invitations, signs, "guest book", programs, and centerpieces were done by the couple and their friends and family. Megan's mom made the adorable flower girl outfits. There were tons of sentimental details as well. Megan wore pearls that her grandpa had given her grandma and then her mom. "When I was little he would always talk about how excited he was to see me at my wedding but he died when I was 9. The pearls were a little piece of him." Over the course of their 6 years of dating, Megan dried and saved the flowers Chris gave her. The petals from the flowers were what was in the flower girls baskets. Megan also gave Chris a journal that she had been keeping for the past 2 years. She had started writing letters to him in it while she was living in Uganda and he in Costa Rica. She wrote her last entry to him the morning of the wedding. The pastor who married the couple was the same pastor who married Megan's parents 29 years before. Orange is Megan's color and green is Chris's favorite so they tried to incorporate pops of their favorite colors into the wedding. She wore burlap Tom's for the ceremony and then changed into the orange Tom's that had been a birthday gift from Chris. The girls all picked their own grey dresses and wore matching black lace Tom's and custom made necklaces. The guys wore grey as well with orange ties and orange knit ties with monogramed tie bars from etsy. During cocktail hour, guests snacked on goodies from the make your own trail mix bar. Guests dined under the stars and danced the night away under a canopy of lights."
From the bride:
Our wedding was super special to us and we knew the moment we got engaged that we wanted our family and friends to be a big significant part of it. We each had 9 attendants which seems like a lot but each one has played a huge role in our lives. Sisters, brothers, friends since birth and friends we met within the last couple of years less than a couple years ago stood next to us and marked the journey we were on and their support of us. Numerous friends helped us with the DIY projects (centerpieces, table runners, aisle runner, bunting, signs, invitations). We believe our relationship is as strong as it is because of our friends and family who have walked this road with us and faithfully prayed with us for this day. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was when our pastor read our story. We Chris and I dated for 5 1/2 years and went through many joys and trials in that time. It was fun to write our story and then share that with everyone else so they could see how beautifully God orchestrated our days leading up to our wedding. We had an Ebenezer jar at the communion table that we put a rock into signifying God's faithfulness to us. We saw our wedding day as a marker of God's provision but also to serve as a reminder to us of His goodness even years down the road. It was also really special that the pastor who married us had married my parents almost exactly 29 years before! Our ceremony was fairly traditional. We chose the colors orange and green because they are each of our favorite colors. They added a fun pop to every detail. I knew I wanted lace and burlap as our theme because I loved the delicacy of lace with simplicity of burlap. My dress was lace and I wore burlap TOMS for the ceremony and then changed into orange TOMS (they were a gift from Chris) for the reception. We loved the deep meaning and significance of our ceremony but the mood totally changed for our reception. We danced outdoors under a gorgeous chandelier and looked out over the candle lit tables. It was amazing to see all the intricate details provided by our our family and friends beautifully fall into place!
