From Dixie: Being from Ohio, the only mountains I'd ever seen prior to this trip were the Appalachian mountains in KY & WV. Annecy is just so incredibly European. If you've never traveled out of the US, I would suggest an area like this. All of these cities around the Alps are insanely gorgeous. Plus, you're so close to Switzerland and Italy - giving you a lot of day trip opportunities. Annecy is colorful, the weather was perfect when I went, and it was a really unique day trip I'd recommend to anyone who loves long walks - a gorgeous lake surrounded by mountains offers a really beautiful scene.
