From the bride:
I have always had a deep love for coffee shops. Nothing compares to the strong scent of espresso and engaging in intentional conversation, it's no surprise that I met the love of my life at one of these very establishments. Before Nate and I met, we both spent a good amount of time overseas and through those experiences we realized the importance of community with friends and family and growing together through life. We wanted our wedding to be a simple reflection of this fact. We had about 60 of our closest friends and family present. In my opinion, our wedding was perfect. A little elegant, a little rustic, a lot of simple. We chose the Belle of Round Top in Round Top, Texas for the venue. Because of our love for travel, but also our desire to share the special day with some of our close friends and family, we chose a small Texas town to host our doable-destination wedding. The venue was beautiful. It is a victorian-style old Bed and Breakfast with a gorgeous, Texas Hill Country landscape. I never considered myself a boot-scoot-and-boogy sort of girl, but I loved the small Texas town feel to the entire day. With a short three-month engagement and a tight budget, it was all hands on deck. But who needs a wedding planner when you have the greatest family and friends? My cuisine-saavy family made the meal, a good friend made the day so special with her amazing photography skills, a local baker made our cakes on a dime, and a close friend arranged all the flowers. Our wedding wouldn't have been what it was without everyone's help, and to us, it made it all the more special. Some of my favorite touches of the wedding were the decorations. The flowers were gorgeous! My sweet friend Kate traveled all the way to Round Top in a 55 degree car just so they wouldn't wilt (what a friend!). We used a lot of babies breath and billy buttons, I love how sweet yet whimsical both of those flowers are. The centerpieces were made up of my grandmothers old books, mason jars filled with wild flowers, and tea lights all tangled in bark covered wire. Along with the centerpieces we also had the "guest cards" displayed on the tables. Rather than doing a traditional guest book, we printed cards that read, "Where will Nate and Sarah be in ____ years?" Our guests made silly predictions about where they thought we would be years down the road. It made for a fun post-wedding project, reading the cards and assembling them into a guest book. All in all, the day was perfect for us. Our lead Pastor from our church married us. The day was centered around our love for Christ and our love for each other, and we joyfully got to share that with the ones that we are closest to. After the ceremony and meal, an awesome dance party broke out on the dance floor, resulting in some of my favorite pictures from the day! Our DIY doable-destination wedding would not have been possible without the love and help of our friends and family, a surprisingly beautiful July day, and countless purchases from save-on-crafts.com. If I can give one bit of advice to future brides it would be to not sweat the small stuff. Keep it simple, keep it personal, and be creative. I am still experiencing the best part of the wedding, being married to the most amazing husband.
