We decided to do first looks, which were are both so happy we did. I (Cody), don't normally get emotional and to be honest didn't feel any different walking out to meet Josh, even being in a wedding gown! I found that weird myself, but the second I walked toward Josh and saw him with his back turned, simply waiting for me to meet him, I lost it. My knees were weak, and I cried tears of joy once I saw his handsome face. I'd say the reality of the day sunk in at that very moment. (Josh) "It's almost indescribable. I was speechless. I felt like the luckiest man in the world. All I can remember is staring at Cody and thinking how beautiful she looked."
Favorite moment:
On the emotional scale, the first looks and the walk down the aisle took the cake. Seeing each other for the second time, during the ceremony, was so different than the first and just as amazing. On the fun scale, we enjoyed seeing the little ones run around with smiles on their faces all night. Everything from the chalkboards we made them, to the candy buffet and glow sticks provided made them all so happy and entertained. Too cute for words! The Photobooth was a big hit and got a few belly laughs! Finally, the sparkler send off was a fun way to end the night, but we were a little scared thinking our outfits could light on fire!
Unique or special traditions?
For traditions, not especially. My Mom did give me a pin that used to be my Grandmas, which I put on my bouquet as my "something blue". This was especially important to me because my Mom is one of eleven children, and I am one of 59 grandkids! To be able to have anything from my Grandma is incredibly rare, and was so sweet to have.
What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding?
Don't let the guest list trouble you, because not everyone can be invited. A dress tip: Even if you find "the dress" at your very first shopping trip, don't buy yet. Try on dresses at least two separate times. Although I LOVE my dress, I was immediately saddened once I realized I only got to try on dresses the one time. Not that I thought I'd find a better dress, but it's so much fun and something you'll never get to do again in your life (hopefully)! Get a videographer! This is a big regret of ours. We thought we were 100% sure we didn't want one, but now we are dying to have it on video. One final and important thing, do first looks! It eases your nerves and is such a special moment between just the two of you.
Anything else you would like to share?
My photographer was amazing. Please, get a good photographer! Do your research, and be prepared to splurge. It's the one thing I was okay to splurge on and glad I did! Especially if you don't do a videographer, it's the only tangible thing you'll have to capture your memories! Remember to get your photographer a little something special. Etiquette says you don't need to, but keep in mind that they work harder than anyone that night. They are working before anyone and after everyone, and their job doesn't end there! Yes they're getting paid for it, but it's still good to recognize hard work.
