FROM THE BRIDE: The setting for our wedding turned out to be the perfect blend of the old world glamour I have always loved and the stunning beauty of nature my husband and I both admire. We both work as teachers in the Phoenix valley, so in order to escape the heat for our wedding once school got out in June, we opted for the cool elevation of northern Arizona in Flagstaff. Secluded in the forests just south of town sits Foxboro Ranch Estates which sells luxury mountain homesites secluded amongst the rustic scenery of mountains and conifers. Their property clubhouse is a ceder lodge which served as a perfectly grand venue against the rustic backdrop. Over the creek which runs through the grassy open field of the property is a wooden covered bridge wide enough to host our wedding ceremony. The covered bridge became an outdoor cathedral: with a hanging wooden cross and iron window frames, the bridge's simple features set a reverent tone couched in a scenic mountain prairie. This "nat ural cathedral" allowed me to wear a cathedral length veil as it would be fitting for the actual vastness of the space.
To continue the juxtaposition of the glamorous and the rustic, the palette included analogous colors of mint, sky blue, and turquoise with accents of gold, black, and grey. The girls wore the colors and gold while the boys wore grey suits and black narrow ties. To welcome guests to the reception in the grand lodge were two heavy double doors donned with draping eucalyptus wreaths and banners with a phrase in latin that captured how we felt about meeting one another: "Now I know what love is. -Virgil". This revealed love could only be celebrated by a grand feast with the best of friends and of course dancing.
Bride's favorite moment of the day: Taking a few moments to step back from the reception while the sun set to take photos in the field with just my groom. Looking back on the glowing lodge which held all the people we love now all full of merriment. This moment might only be surpassed by the romance of our first dance. A dance, the perfect metaphor for the harmony of true love.
Groom's favorite moment of the day: Serving communion at the end of the ceremony. This was our first act as a married couple and symbolized the way in which we wanted our reception, and really our married life, to be one of service to our community.
